A week In Antigua...

Antigua is an island nation in the Eastern Caribbean, and is a country comprised of two islands: Antigua and the smaller, Barbuda. Direct flights from Toronto, Canada operate four times a week that means is stays of only certain durations are possible. I suggest you spend a week on holiday in Antigua and consider flying on a weekday. The airfare may be even cheaper! On my most recent visit to Antigua, I flew on a Saturday and returned the following Saturday, having spent 7 nights, 8 days exploring this country. I had previously visited Antigua twice on a cruise, and enjoyed both my days spent on the island.

If you are fortunate to have an entire week in Antigua, here is an itinerary I recommend.

From your all-inclusive or European plan hotel, there is much to explore on this small island and transportation and excursions are readily available. Getting around in Antigua is safe, a visit to this friendly island is not complete without a little exploration. A practical tip - carry with you USD in small bills for purchases and tipping, all major credit cards are also accepted on the island.

The direct flight from Toronto to Saint John’s, Antigua is 4.75 hours. Transportation from the airport to your all-inclusive resort is likely included, be sure to check with me, your Virtuoso travel advisor, to confirm your transportation details.

Day 1

Fly from to Saint John’s, Antigua & Barbuda, check into your hotel, rest, relax and enjoy dinner at your resort. You’ve arrived!

Day 2

Wake up, listen to the waves, soak in some much needed early sunshine and have breakfast at your resort. If you’re staying at Hammock Cove, ask your personal Ambassador for room service breakfast on your private terrace overlooking your plunge pool.

On this first full day, take the Pink Panther Safari Tour. All members of your family will enjoy this scenic and exhilarating open-air jeep tour of the island. It’s perfect for families as you can point new things that are bound to interest children of all ages. Seeing the rugged coastal terrain and listening to the colourful commentary of our guide Shelly was a highlight for me.

Return to your resort, enjoy a leisurely afternoon strolling the beach and having a cocktail.

Tonight, if it is Sunday I recommend you dine at Shirley Heights Sunset BBQ Party. Dennis Restaurant is recommended for another night of the week. The view from the high point at Shirley Heights is breathtaking. Enjoy the extraordinary steel band performance. Linger and enjoy soca and popular music from a rotating main stage band. After returning to your resort and make new friends over a beverage in the lounge.

Day 3

If you’re staying at the Verandah Resort & Spa, this is a good day to try some mini golf and challenge your fellow travellers and new friends. At this resort I really enjoy the setting and ambiance of the oceanfront infinity pool. The Rasta Bar and Wadadli Snack Shack are a great choice here for lunch and a cocktail. Enjoy spending your second full day in Antigua at your resort indulging in whatever you please. Explore the various restaurant offerings at your hotel and try something new. I challenge you to eat breakfast, lunch and dinner at somewhere different for each meal today. Trying various restaurants at your resort early in your vacation means you can return to your favourites later in the week.
